Green Shoots is a subsidiary of Recycling Institute, which was founded in Dundee in 2005 by Dundee City Council, the University of Abertay Dundee, and SD Lime & Associates.  Green Shoots was created in Dundee in April 2006, as a result of work undertaken by Recycling Institute in the ReRegions project funded by the Interreg IIIc programme.  The project involved seven different partners from five EU countries working on the socio-economic problems caused by economic decline in regions of Brown Coal mining.  Recycling Institute conceived the Green Shoots concept whilst working on this project.
